"We at Boheme Opera NJ were truly fortunate to work with Janell Berte recently in our critically acclaimed production of Gilbert & Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance (April 2010). Janell created a concept of colors, textures, continuity and pure excitement when the curtain opened. She used quality materials that fit and moved well with the singers, while collaborating with the stage director and choreographer to accomplish their staging ideas. Not only did Janell create an outstanding professional design, but she interacted with the cast and chorus in a caring and sensitive manner so necessary in our theater genre. [The Von Trapp children ] glowed onstage in no fewer than seven stunning sets of costumes designed by Janell Berte, who really outdid herself from beginning to end.
[The costumes] made a downright beautiful wedding scene, both for its brevity and pure spectacle.
